Bedeutung/Ursprung der Flagge: Meaning/Origin of the Flag:

The flag of North Dakota was introduced on 3rd of March in 1911. It shows a plain blue bunting and in the middle elements of the emblem of the United States: a soaring bald eagle with an olive branch and a bundle of arrows in its talons. It holds in his beak, a red banner with the state motto of the United States: "E pluribus unum" => "One out of many." Above the eagle, a stylized rising sun and thirteen white stars. They stand for the thirteen founding colonies of the United States. Below the eagle, a red banner with the name of the country in golden letters.

The flag dates back to the flag of the First North Dakota Infantry Regiment of the U.S. Army, which was used in the Spanish-US-American War in 1898, however without the red banner with the name of the country.
